Action Movies Earn a Spot at the Critics Choice Awards

Action movies rarely earn Best Picture honors during Hollywood’s award season. But this year, for its 18th annual Critics Choice Awards show, the Broadcast Film Critics Association shook up the ballot, adding several new categories and deleting others. Among the new additions are Best Action Movie, Best Actor in an Action Movie and Best Actress in an Action Movie.

BFCA Critics Choice Awards The four 2012 movies nominated in the Best Action Movie category include the following: The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Looper and Skyfall.

Earning a nod for Best Actor in an Action Movie are Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Rises, Daniel Craig in Skyfall, Robert Downey Jr. in The Avengers, Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Looper and Jake Gyllenhall in End of Watch.

Best Actress in an Action Movie nominations go to Emily Blunt in Looper, Gina Carano in Haywire, Judi Dench in Skyfall, Ann Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises, and Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games.
