Coming to Netflix: May 2021
Netflix is adding plenty of classic films this month, including the Back to the Future trilogy. Film buffs can also look forward to The Woman in the Window, starring Amy Adams and originally slated for a pre-covid theatrical release.
May 1:

Back to the Future IIIDoc Brown has disappeared and Marty finally tracks him down in the Wild West. Doc is besotted with the local schoolma’am but is going to have to face off against Buford “Mad Dog” Tannen before they can return to the 1990s. PG, Grade: B-

Love Happens A self help author has a secret: although he preaches emotional wellness, he’s using alcohol to mask his grief over the death of his wife. Then he runs into a quirky florist and it looks like he might be able to hope for happiness again. PG-13, Grade: B-
Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted Everyone’s favorite escaped zoo animals are back, now going undercover on a circus train traveling across Europe. Mayhem ensues. PG, Grade: B-
Never Back Down Set up by a beautiful girl, Jake is badly beaten at a party. So he swears revenge and starts training in Mixed Martial Arts. PG-13, Grade: D-
Notting Hill In a reverse Cinderella story, a diffident bookstore owner in London meets a glamorous Hollywood movie star. Their mutual interest in each other has them wondering if they can merge their wildly divergent worlds.. PG-13, Grade: C-
Open Season In this animated tale, Boog the bear and Elliott, the one-antlered deer have had a wild night out in the woods that has not been well received at home. Now banished to the deep woods, they need to find their way back to safety before hunting season begins. PG, Grade: B
Resident Evil: Afterlife This video game adaptation sees the protagonist setting off to find survivors of a fearsome virus and to kill any who are carrying the infection. (Not exactly covid-friendly, is it?) Restricted, Content details only.

StargateWhen a strange artifact found in Egypt turns out to be an interstellar teleportation device, a group of explorers depart for unknown worlds. PG-13, Grade: B-
State of Play: Russell Crowe stars as a reporter who links together two murders and the suicide of a congressman’s mistress. As he follows the clues, he uncovers surprising revelations about corruption, foreign policy, and the military. PG-13, Grade: C+
The Darkest Hour: When invisible alien invaders attack Moscow, a group of American tourists fight to survive. PG-13, Grade: C+
The Land Before Time When an earthquake destroys their world, a group of animated dinosaurs band together to find a new home. G, Grade: B
The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure This straight to video sequel sees the dinosaurs living happily in their valley oasis, that is, until the youngsters disobey their parents and wind up on a perilous journey. G, Grade: B-
The Lovely Bones The Salmons are struggling with their grief for their 14 year old daughter who disappeared mysteriously. Meanwhile, their daughter is in the afterlife, wishing she could tell them who murdered her. PG-13, Grade: C-
The Yeti AdventuresUsing the diary of a missing explorer, Simon, Nelly, and Tenzig are trying to prove that Yeti really do exist. (Our review will be published on release date.) Unrated

The Woman in the Window This remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic, Rear Window, tilts the formula closer to psychological horror than whodunnit. Amy Adams stars as an agoraphobic woman obsessed with her new neighbors. When she watches them, she sees an act of violence and is drawn into their lives. Netflix Original Restricted
