Coming to Netflix: December 2020

It’s a busy month for Netflix, with classic hits mixed in with some new productions and few festive flicks. Reviews for original Netflix productions will be posted on release date.

December 1st:

3 Days to Kill.Secret Agent Ethan Kenner has learned that he has only five months to live, giving him a strong desire to reunite with his estranged daughter. That is, until the CIA ropes him in for one more job. PG-13, Grade: C-

50 First Dates. Adam Sandler stars as a playboy falling in love with a woman whose amnesia causes her to forget she has ever met him before. PG-13, Grade: D

Angels & Demons. This sequel to The DaVinci Code sees Tom Hanks once again on the chase, this time on the trail of an ancient secret brotherhood that has a vendetta with the Catholic Church. PG-13, Grade: C-

Chef.When Carl Casper gets chopped from his restaurant job, he decides to start his own food truck. Restricted, content details only.

E.T. the Extra-TerrestrialTen year old Elliot befriends an alien and the duo embarks on an adventure as they try to find a way to return him to his far distant home. PG, Grade: A

Jurassic Park.When an entrepreneur decides to create a theme park stocked with genetically recreated dinosaurs, he apparently forgets that dinos are apex predators. PG-13, Grade: B

Jurassic Park III.A paleontologist and some guests are stranded on Isla Soma. This is a problem because the island is inhabited by dinosaurs, who happen to be hungry. PG-13, Grade: C

Kung Fu Panda 2 Po the panda and the rest of the Furious Five are called to save the nearby villages when they are attacked by the villainous Lord Shen, a peacock with a taste for violence. PG, Grade: A-

Little Nicky. Adam Sandler stars as one of the sons of the devil who’s trying to save his father from decomposing while restoring the frozen fires of hell. (It’s worse than it sounds.) PG-13, Grade: D

The Lost World: Jurassic ParkWhen a scientist earns that his girlfriend is on an island documenting dinosaur behavior, he heads off to make sure she’s safe. But is anyone safe on an island full of giant carnivores? PG-13, Grade: C

Monster House.In this animated feature, three friends become convinced that the house across the street is devouring people. But how can they convince the grownups? PG, Grade: B-

Peppermint. This revenge thriller tells the story of a woman who seeks lethal vengeance on those responsible for the death of her husband and child. Restricted, Content details only.

Quigley Down Under. With his high-powered custom rifle and steady hand, Quigley is in demand as a marksman. Now living in Australia, he’s been hired to do a job for a local rancher that he quickly comes to regret. PG-13, Grade: B-

Runaway Bride.A newspaper columnist finds himself falling in love with the commitment-phobic woman he’s writing about. PG, Grade: B-

Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family.When a health crisis leaves the family reeling, Madea dishes out tough love and family secrets. PG-13, Content information only.

December 3rd:

Just Another Christmas.Groundhog Day meets Christmas in this Brazilian comedy. (Netflix Original)

December 4th:

Bombay Rose. This hand-painted animated film tells the story of Kamala and Salim as they find love in Bombay. (Netflix Original) PG-13

Mank: This film explores the writing of Citizen Kane. Filmed entirely in black and white, it aims to capture a retro feel. (Netflix Original)

December 8th:

Triple 9 With their eyes on a massive heist, gangsters work with corrupt cops to murder a police officer who stands in their way. Restricted, content details only.

December 9th:

Rose IslandWhen an idealistic Italian engineer builds his own island, he has no idea that he’s going to wind up in trouble with his own government. (Netflix Original)

December 11th:

Giving Voice. This documentary is set in the annual August Wilson Monologue competition and follows the thousands of teenagers who compete in the hopes of landing a spot in a Broadway production. (Netflix Original) PG-13

The Prom.When a high school student can’t take her girlfriend to the prom, a group of theater stars burst onto the scene to make sure the students have an unforgettable party. (Netflix Original) PG-13

December 14th:

A California Christmas. Desperate to buy a plot of land, a wealthy entrepreneur poses as a ranch hand to persuade a young woman to sell her family’s farm. (Netflix Original) PG-13

December 15TH:

The Grizzlies. A northern Canadian town is mired in substance abuse and despair, leading to an epidemic of suicide. Then a new schoolteacher arrives and decides that his students need something to work towards, so he starts a lacrosse team. Restricted, Grade: B+

The Professor and the Madman. Compiling the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary, a professor is startled to learn that thousands of the entries he receives have come from a patient in the Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum. (Our review will be posted on release date.) Unrated

December 16th:

Nocturnal Animals. A woman is terrified when her ex-husband sends her a copy of a book he’s writing about a violent domestic murder. Restricted, content information only.

December 18th:

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. In 1927 Chicago, Ma Rainey is a beloved blues singer. In this film, the white management find themselves in a battle of wills with the vocalist and her trumpet player. (Netflix Original) Restricted

December 22nd:

After We Collided. In this sequel to After, Tessa and Hardin break up only to resume their tortuous, passionate romance. Restricted, Grade: D

December 23rd:

The Midnight Sky. A group of astronauts are headed back to their now post-apocalyptic home planet. A lone scientist living in the Arctic with his daughter is trying to contact the astronauts and prevent their return. (Netflix Original) PG-13

December 28th:

Rango. When a chameleon is accidentally abandoned in the Mojave desert, he struggles to fit in. PG, Grade: B-
