Disney Releases Upcoming Movie Dates for the Next 2 Years
If you like to plan ahead, Walt Disney Studios just made your life a whole lot easier. Tech Insider reports the moviemaking company has released their upcoming schedule for the next TWO years.
This year the Dreamworks division releases Bridge of Spies on October 16. The dramatic thriller stars Tom Hanks as a Brooklyn lawyer who is thrust into the task of negotiating the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg with a screenplay by Matt Charman and Ethan and Joel Coen.
Younger audiences can look forward to the Disney/Pixar animation The Good Dinosaur. This story explores what might have happened if dinosaurs weren’t rendered extinct by an asteroid. Could humans and dinos really be friends? The film opens in theaters November 25.
Star War fans are counting down the days until Lucasfilm brings Star Wars: The Force Awakens to theaters on December 18. This reboot of the franchise stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher alongside newcomers Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.
The new year begins with Chris Pine, Eric Bana and Casey Affleck starring in The Finest Hours. Set in 1952, the film is based on the daring rescue efforts off the Cape Cod coast after the destruction of two oil tankers. The film comes to theaters January 29, 2016.
Jason Bateman voices a fast-talking fox who is on the run after being accused of a crime he didn’t commit in the animated movie Zootopia. The film also stars the voice talents of Ginnifer Goodwin, Alan Tudyk and Katie Lowes. The film opens March 4, 2016.
Disney’s second live-action adaptation of a classic animation comes to theaters April 15, 2016. Directed by Jon Favreau, The Jungle Book stars the voice talents of Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong’o, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson and Christopher Walken.
Captain America: Civil War picks up where The Avengers: Age of Ultron left off. An incident results in a clash between Iron Man and Captain America that tears the team apart. The film comes to theaters May 6, 2016.
Alice Through the Looking Glass is a sequel to Tim Burton’s 2010 movie Alice in Wonderland. Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp will reprise their roles as Alice and the Mad Hatter. In this story, Alice travels back in time meeting the characters’ younger selves and discovers the Hatter’s secret. The movie releases May 27, 2016.
Daytime TV host Ellen DeGeneres is back for the sequel to Finding Nemo. In the movie Finding Dory, the colorful little fish goes on a journey to discover her past. Ed O’Neil and Ty Burrell join the cast as new characters in the animation that releases June 17, 2016.
Roald Dahl’s children’s classic story The BFG will get a screen treatment by Steven Spielberg in an upcoming adaptation. Bill Hader (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Inside Out) will star as the giant. Newcomer Ruby Barnhill will play Sophie. The film is set to release on July 1, 2016, 100 years since Dahl’s birth in Llandaff, Wales.
After starring alongside Chris Pratt in Jurassic World, Bryce Dallas Howard will share the screen with Wes Bentley in the 2016 remake of the 1977 movie Pete’s Dragon. The film will release August 12, 2016.
Benedict Cumberbatch will trade in his sleuthing skills to play the role of Dr. Stephen Strange in the Marvel movie “Doctor Strange. He plays a failed surgeon who is given a second chance when a sorcerer takes him under his wings. Watch for this film on October 26, 2016.
Disney’s 56th animated movie Moana comes to the big screen on November 23, 2016. The film stars Dwayne Johnson as the demi-god Maui who joins a young teen on an adventure to find a fabled island.
Almost a year to the day after Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes to theaters, the spin-off Rogue One releases on December 16, 2016. The script follows a group of rebels who try to steal the plans for the Death Star. The film stars Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn and Forrest Whitaker.
The year 2017 starts off with the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Emma Watson stars as Belle and Dan Stevens will play the Beast. The film, based on the animated classic, releases March 17 and stars Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Luke Evans as Gaston and Ewan McGregor as Lumiere.
Chris Pratt is expected to return for the sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set to release on May 5, 2017. While story details are scanty, it is rumored the identity of Star Lord’s father will be revealed in this film.
An eighth (yes that is 8th) installment of Star Wars is set to release May 26, 2017. Rian Johnson will direct the yet unnamed movie.
Toy Story 4 will come to the big screen under the direction of John Lasseter. The film will feature a love story between Woody and Bo Peep and will release on June 16, 2017.
Scheduled to open in theaters on July 7, 2017, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales stars Johnny Depp in his title role as Captain Jack Sparrow. In this story a down-on-his-luck Sparrow faces his old nemesis Captain Salazar and a ghost ship full of dead pirates.
