Bryce Dallas Howard Takes Over Helen Reddy’s Role in Remake of Pete’s Dragon
Walt Disney Studios has announced it is reimaging the 1977 classic Pete’s Dragon. Principal photography for the movie that will include a mix of live-action and CGI has begun in New Zealand. WETA DIGITAL, the visual effects company founded by Peter Jackson, has been employed to bring the animated dragon, Elliot, to life on the big screen.
Bryce Dallas Howard takes over the role played by Helen Reddy in the original film. Oakes Fegley will star as Pete, the little orphan who is befriended by Elliot. Robert Redford reprises a character played by Mickey Rooney. Other cast members include Robert Redford, Karl Urban, Wes Bentley and Oona Laurence.
The Australian-born Reddy was a pop star sensation in the 1970s and 80s with hits such as “I Am Woman”, “Delta Dawn” and “I Don’t Know How to Love Him.” Her acting credits include Airport 1975, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and The Perfect Host. Since retiring the singer/actress now lives on her own in downtown Sydney where she enjoys a quiet life away from the spotlight.
The remake of Pete’s Dragon is scheduled to release in August 2016.
