Coming to Netflix: February 2021

Netflix’s roster of familiar movies is pretty thin in February; thankfully, they’re releasing plenty of original content, including animated features for kids. Note that the reviews for Netflix Original movies will be posted on release date.

February 1:

Eat Pray LoveDissatisfied with her life and her marriage, Elizabeth Gilbert decides to take a year off and travel to exotic locales. So she heads off to Italy, India, and Bali where she learns to “eat, pray, and love”. PG-13, Grade: C-

InceptionIn this sci-fi story, Leonardo DiCaprio plays a man skilled in the illegal practice of entering a person’s dreams and stealing secrets from their mind. But when he’s asked to commit “inception” – planting an idea in a sleeper’s mind – the stakes get much higher. PG-13, Grade: B-

My Best Friend’s WeddingJulianne expects to marry her best friend, Michael. So when he tells her that he’s marrying Kimmy, Julianne tries to derail the nuptials. PG-13, Grade: B-

Shutter IslandWhen two US Marshals are sent to Shutter Island to investigate the disappearance of a female patient from a facility for the criminally insane, they put their own sanity on the line. Restricted, Grade: C+

February 5:

Malcolm & Marie (Netflix Original) Zendaya stars here as the girlfriend of a director. Their relationship is put under the microscope as the couple await the critics’ reviews to the premiere of his latest film. Restricted

Space Sweepers (Netflix Original) This Korean drama is set in a post-apocalyptic future in 2097. When astronauts find a weapon of mass destruction disguised as a human child, they see the chance to make some money…

February 8:

War DogsBased on a true story, two young men are paid to broker a deal between the Pentagon and America’s allies in Afghanistan. Restricted, Content details only.

February 10:

The World We Make (Netflix original) Lee dreams of riding her horse across America. Jordan dreams of playing football. When they fall in love, their small town reacts negatively to a relationship between a White woman and a Black man. PG

February 11:

Red Dot (Netflix Original) Nadja and David’s relationship is struggling. When she learns she’s pregnant, the couple decide to go hiking in the mountains to boost their relationship. This Swedish film sees the couple hunted and on the run in the Northern Swedish wilderness.

Squared Love This Polish comedy has viewers laughing as a famous, lady-killer get beaten at his own game when he falls for a woman who’s got her own secret.

February 12:

To All the Boys: Always and Forever (Netflix Original) In the third and final movie of the series, Lara Jean’s back from a family trip to Korea. Now she has to decide which university she’s going to attend – and how Peter fits into her plans.

Xico’s Journey (Netflix Original) When gold is found in the nearby mountain, mining equipment threatens to destroy the ecosystem of the entire area. This Mexican animated film follows a girl, a dog, and her best friend as they set out to save the day.

February 13:

Monsoon (Netflix Original) Although born in Vietnam, Kit has spent most of his life in England. Now his mother has died and he’s back in Vietnam to make peace with his past and chart his future.

February 19:

I Care a Lot (Netflix Original) Rosamund Pike stars as Marla Grayson, a woman who has elderly people declared unfit and then installs herself as their legal guardian. With their assets under her control, she proceeds to drain their bank accounts. All is going swimmingly until she targets the wrong woman. Restricted

February 21:
The Conjuring Ed and Lorraine are paranormal investigators. But their work gets personal when dark forces target their family. Restricted, Content details only.

February 26:

Bigfoot Family (Netflix Original) This French animated feature sees Bigfoot heading off to save the wild from the efforts of Big Oil. When he disappears in mysterious circumstances, his wife, son, and their assorted animal friends come to the rescue.

Call Me Crazy (Netflix Original) Also known as Crazy About Her, this film sees a lovesick man turning himself into a psychiatric facility to be near the woman with whom he’s besotted.

Captain Fantastic Ben and Leslie have raised their six children in the wilderness, away from society. But when Leslie dies, Ben takes the kids into the city for her funeral – and to meet the family. Restricted, Content details only.

No EscapeJack and Annie have relocated to South East Asia with their two young daughters. When a coup breaks out, with rebels determined to kill all foreigners, Jack must do everything he can to save his family. Restricted, Content details only.
