Star Trek Fans Can Boldly Go Where No Fan Has Gone Before
Star Trek fans are getting the chance of a lifetime. Beginning today they have the opportunity to win a walk-on role in the franchise’s third installment Star Trek: Beyond. The cast of Star Trek has joined forces with Omaze for a unique money-raising project that will support nine global causes selected by the cast.
Each entry costs $10 and the campaign will run until 11:59 PST September 1. The funds raised will be equally dived among the nine charities. The grand prize winner and a guest will be flown to Vancouver, transformed into Star Trek characters and be filmed for a scene. Six other winners will be randomly selected throughout the campaign to be part of an honorary Star Trek: To Boldly Go crew.
The organization chosen by the cast include Brave Beginnings (ZoĆ« Saldana), Camp Sunshine (Anton Yelchin), Direct Relief (Zachary Qunito), Heaven Homes (Idris Elba), KidsCan (Karl Urban), Korean Youth & Community Center (John Cho), Make-A-Wish (Chris Pine), Time Is Precious (Simon Pegg) and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Susan Nimoy in honor of Leonard Nimoy).
Omaze is an online social good platform that provides opportunities for anyone to win once-in-a-lifetime experiences while supporting social missions. The site, founded by college friends Matt Pohlson and Ryan Cummins, is also running initiatives to support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Haiti: Make Births Safe and After-School All-Stars among others.
