Sound of Music on OPRAH

If raindrops on roses and warm woolen mittens are two of your favorite things, then Oprah Winfrey’s October 29, 2010 reunion show is for you. Forty-five years after the theatrical production of The Sound of Music released, the daytime host is reuniting the cast of the well-known musical during her final season of the Oprah show.

The actors, including Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer and the seven performers who played the famous von Trapp children, will share memories from their time together on the set. They will also reveal what their lives have been like since the movie’s debut.

The film is based on the World War II experiences of Captain Georg von Trapp who hires an inexperienced governess from the Nonnberg Abbey. Though initially overwhelmed by her responsibilities, the novice childcare provider soon builds a warm bond with the rambunctious brood. Then as the warfront draws nearer, the family prepares to steal away from Nazi-occupied Austria before their father is conscripted into service for Hitler’s army.

The movie, which has previously been available on VHS, Laser Disc and DVD, comes to Blu-ray on November 2, 2010. Singalong Sound of Music events will be held at select theaters nationwide on October 19 and 26.
