Nobody 2 Parent Guide
The movie delivers what it promises: non-stop fight scenes and lightning fast pacing.
Parent Movie Review
There are consequences if you set afire thirty million dollars belonging to Russian gangs. For Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk), that means plenty of messy work keeping hit squads off his lawn. It also means that he’s been so busy killing strangers he barely sees his wife Becca (Connie Nielsen) and kids anymore. Hutch knows things need to change soon if he wants to keep them in his life. What better way than a family vacation? He has fond memories of a little tourist trap called Plummerville, the site of the one and only family vacation his dad, David (Christopher Lloyd) took him on as a kid. So to Plummerville they go.
Even on holiday, Hutch’s short temper gets the family in trouble. When he decks the wrong guy, Hutch finds himself embroiled in a bloody fight between gangsters who use the town as a money laundering hub and transportation corridor for extremely dangerous substances. And as much as he’d rather be riding the duck boats with his family, Hutch just can’t walk away from a fight – even on vacation.
National Lampoon’s Vacation meets John Wick is not a recipe that sounds particularly appetizing, but the film kind of gets away with it. The pacing is lightning fast, and the movie doesn’t give you too much time to dwell on the weaknesses in the writing before launching you headfirst into another unhinged fight scene. Bob Odenkirk impresses, as always, not only by managing to keep up with the demanding stunt work, but by injecting a little humanity into a fairly simple character.
As you might have guessed, Nobody 2 is nobody’s idea of family entertainment. The body count is in the dozens, there are more than 60 f-bombs, and a guy gets pushed into a table saw. On the other hand, the substance use is limited to legal substances in normal amounts, and there is no sexual content to speak of – there just isn’t room in the runtime for much else after Hutch finishes slaughtering his way to a relaxing trip. For those of you who can handle the violence, this is a fun, energetic, summer action-comedy, and I enjoyed it about as much as I expected to. Just don’t pay too much attention to the clunky writing.
