Why is Companion rated R? Companion is rated R by the MPAA for strong violence, sexual content, and language throughout.
Violence: A couple are involved in a controlling, abusive relationship. There are many violent jump scares. Frequent violent scenes involve physical combat, firearms, bladed weapons, and improvised weapons. Bloody wounds and injuries are seen. A person is forced to set their arm on fire and shoot themselves in the head. A person is stalked. A man assaults a woman who fights him and escapes. A man fires a taser into his own mouth. A character stabs someone in the head with a corkscrew, with gruesome injury detail. A man is stabbed in the neck. A man is repeatedly shot in the face with blood spray detail.
Sexual Content: A couple is heard having sex but there is no on-screen activity. There is sexual discussion, including a conversation about male genital size.
Profanity: The script contains over 120 profanities, including sexual expletives, scatological curses, terms of deity, minor profanities, and crude anatomical terms. A vulgar term for women is also used as is slang for sex.
Drugs/Alcohol: There is brief recreational alcohol use.
