9 Famous Faces Hollywood Lost in 2013

Hollywood lost many famous faces during 2013. Many were seasoned actors like Peter O’Toole who had eight Academy Award nominations. He holds the record for having the most nominations without ever winning the Oscar. Others like Cory Monteith, who died of a heroin and alcohol overdose, were just beginning their careers. Saying good-bye isn’t easy but we pay tribute to the work of these talented performers.

Paul Walker was a mainstay in the Fast and Furious franchise. But this actor, born on September 12, 1973 in Glendale, California, also appeared in other movies including Takers and Eight Below.

James Gandolfini was born September 18, 1961 in Westwood, New Jersey and starred on Broadway as well as television and movies. His debut role on Broadway was in the 1992 version of “A Streetcar Named Desire”. He earned worldwide fame for his role as mob boss Tony Soprano in the television show The Sopranos. Some of his movie roles include parts in Enough Said, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Zero Dark Thirty, The Taking of Pelham 123, All the King’s Men, Surviving Christmas, A Civil Action and The Mighty. He also did voice work in Where the Wild Things Are.

Cory Monteith was only 31-years-old when he died on July 13, 2013. He was born May 11, 1982 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He was best known for his role as Finn Hudson in the TV show Glee. But the young actor also had roles in Monte Carlo, Final Destination 3 and The Invisible.

Jonathan Winters was a comedian born on November 11, 1925. He began his entertainment career when he won a talent contest. Along with his stand up comedy acts, Winters voiced Papa Smurf in the 2011 movie The Smurfs and the sequel Smurfs 2. He also had roles in The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle and The Flintstones.

Peter O’Toole, born on August 12, 1932, may be best known for his role as T.E. Lawrence in the 1962 epic movie Lawrence of Arabia. In his later years the Oscar-nominated actor starred in Stardust and did voice work in Ratatouille.

Lou Myers was born in Cabin Creek, West Virginia on September 26, 1935. Watch for this actor in It’s Kind of a Funny Story, The Fighting Temptations and The Wedding Planner.

British actor Richard Griffiths was born on July 31, 1947 in Thornaby-on-Tees in England. This actor had a long list of stage appearances. But young moviegoers will best recognize him as Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter movies. He also appeared in Hugo, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Bedtime Stories and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Ed Lauter was born in Long Beach, New York on October 30, 1938. His career covered more than four decades and during that time he played a wide varirty of characters. While he has taken roles in many television series, he also starred in Trouble with the Curve and in the 2011 silent movie The Artist. Some of his other movies include The Longest Yard, Seabiscuit, Thirteen Days and The Rocketeer.

Writer Tom Clancy was born on April 12, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. Although he never starred in a movie, Clancy’s books are behind movies like Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Sum of All Fears and The Hunt for Red October.
