How We Determine Our Grades

After watching a movie with your children or students, we encourage parents and teachers to look for education opportunities to teach with movies. Here are a few discussion topics that can help with lesson plans or teaching in the home.

Galley Molina cast Ja Rule as the lead character. The rapper recently served almost two years behind bars for illegal gun possession. His previous film appearances include a role in The Fast and the Furious. How does that film (and the character he plays) differ from this one? Why do you think Molina chose this actor to play himself?

How does Miles relationship with his family differ from Vanessa’s? What role do their parents play in their children’s lives?

Vanessa remains true to her beliefs and values. How does her commitment enable her to be a positive force in Miles’ life? What role does music play in her worship?

When Miles is a store selling faith-based merchandize, Vanassa points out a CD featuring a real Christian rapper named T-Bone. T-Bone (born Rene Sotomayor) also has a role in this movie, playing Mile’s friend Martin De LaFuente. How do you feel about this product placement in the film? What other marketing is included in the production?
