Sexy Images Worse than Porn?
Most parents are eager to protect their children from pornography. But those images aren’t the only ones parents should worry about.
The highly sexualized images of Miley Cyrus and other female pop stars are a bigger threat to children than hard-core pornography according to Jim Gamble. He’s the former head of a British government task force on child protection and chairs a London group that safeguards children.
According to Gamble in a Montreal Gazette story, these singers have a “far greater” impact on youth and children because unlike hard-core pornography, there is “no filter” to keep kids from seeing the images. Instead televised and internet pictures of scantily clad stars in erotic poses are readily available for young media consumers.
Gamble worries about the impact of these singers on young people who often want to emulate these stars. He believes that parents have a right to have an “active choice” in what their children view.
