Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom Is Over

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom has only opened in a limited number of theaters in North America. But already it is creating a buzz among Rotten Tomatoes viewers who have given it an 80% approval rating. And the interest in the film will likely increase with the recent death of the Nelson Mandela.

Based on his autobiography, the film chronicles his life from childhood to his inauguration as South Africa’s first black president in 1994. The movie also covers his involvement with the African National Congress and his 27 years in prison. Idris Elba plays the powerful leader and Naomie Harris plays his wife Winnie.
