Pitch Perfect 2 Hits A High Note at the Box Office

The girls brought down the house this weekend in Pitch Perfect 2 nearly doubling the take brought home by Mad Max. Anna Kendrick and the rest of the cast in the a cappella movie sung their way to the tune of $70.3 million. Mad Max: Fury Road managed to recover only $44 million of the film’s $100 million production cost.

The song-filled sequel may have had the advantage considering the popularity of the original Pitch Perfect. Elizabeth Banks, who stars alongside John Michael Higgins as the hosts of the a cappella events, takes on the directorial role for this second film. The movie reunites Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow and other members of the Barden Bellas. The script also adds new songster Hailee Steinfeld to the mix.
