The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly on TV
Families looking for quality entertainment on their TV screens are more often resorting to finding favorite shows on “Over The Top” services (often referred to at OTT, these are streaming options like Netflix or Hulu) or abandoning TV completely and watching movies or playing games. There’s great irony in this. We now live in an era where the 500 channel universe lauded just two decades ago sounds quaint. What good are 500 channels when you can download/steam/binge on virtually anything you want anytime you desire? But even with an unimaginably huge selection, parents looking for quality TV programming without animated talking bunnies, often still resort to old television programs from years ago.
According to Dr. Christopher Gildemeister, Head of Research Operations at the Parents’ Television Council in Los Angeles, there are fewer options than ever before for parents seeking positive programming. Obviously, that’s not good news. However he reminds us there are some sources that do consistently offer better family TV choices, most notably UP Tv (uptv.com).
Listen to our Parent Preview Podcast with Dr. Gildemeister where we get information about the good, the bad and the ugly on television,. We look forward to getting more information from the PTC on a regular basis. As well, we will continue investigating other cable nets and “over-the-top” (OTT) streaming options that provide families with quality programming.
