Fred Ballinger (Michael Caine) is a retired orchestra conductor. His best friend Mick Boyle (Harvey Keitel) is an aging director. While on holiday together, the chums look back on past triumphs, while trying to forget their failures. Unbeknownst to either, unexpected events will change the way both look at the future.
