Valentine’s Day Movies

For full-fledged romantics who want to celebrate, here are some amorous options for February 14.

“The Parent Preview's staff shares their favorite Valentine's Day Flicks .”

Looking for the perfect romantic movie? The staff at Parent Previews made a list of our favorite (and family recommendable) picks for the holiday.

Rod chooses a budding romance between author C.S. Lewis and an American woman in the movie Shadowlands. He also appreciates the depiction of sexual tension in A Walk in the Clouds when a World War II vet pretends to be married to a young pregnant woman in order to save her from her father's anger. Lastly, it's thumbs up for George Banks who discovers he is going to be the Father of the Bride when his daughter announces her engagement.

Donna's favorites include the story of a young couple whose marriage is challenged when they discover their baby has genetic abnormalities in Follow the Stars Home. She also votes for Dear Frankie, the tale of a woman who has kept the truth from her son about his father's whereabouts. Lastly, when a newspaper columnist inadvertently falls in love with his brother's girlfriend in Dan in Real Life, the family dynamics at a weekend reunion become even more interesting.

Not too be left out, their teen-aged daughter adds her favorites. Jane Austin fans will likely agree that Pride & Prejudice and the colorful Bollywood version Bride & Prejudice are two great alternatives for the holiday. In Raising Helen, a single career woman suddenly finds herself responsible for three young children after her sister is killed.

I (Kerry) have a fondness for Last Chance Harvey, which proves that romance isn't restricted to the young after a divorced, middle-aged man finds ardor in the airport. It is one thing to fall in love but The Incredibles discover it is quite another thing to stay there when children, work and a midlife career crisis all make demands on a couple. And finally a married man discovers a newfound passion for life when he takes up ballroom lessons in Shall We Dance.
