The Story Behind Walden Media
Walden Media is a film production company and book publisher that has a very unique goal. Quoting their website, “Walden Media specializes in entertainment for the whole family”, and from what I have observed, they truly mean it. Check their list of movies against our Parent Previews grades and I don’t think you will find another production company that has as solid a track record as Walden in family films.
“...an inspiring and humorous presentation that will provide a great understanding of how and why this company continues to excel”
Looking at their stable of titles, youll discover gems like the Narnia franchise (The Chronicles of Narnia, the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader) the acclaimed Waiting for "Superman" (winner of the Broadcast Film Critics Critics Choice award for Best Documentary and nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary), the adorable Ramona and Beezus, and many others like Charlottes Web, Bridge to Terabithia, Amazing Grace and Nims Island. All of their films promote lessons and messages surrounding family life, education and humanity. Even better, they frequently and subtly ask for viewers to think critically about what they see and hear, and promote great discussions after the movie.
I have often wondered how and when such a wonderful company began. Fortunately I came across an address by the founder of Walden Media, Michael Flaherty, at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah on March 15, 2011. Its an inspiring and humorous presentation that will provide a great understanding of how and why this company continues to excel at creating family and thoughtful adult entertainment.
PS: Mr. Flaherty mentions a short film made by one of his student apprentices. You can see her library promotion video here.
