Leonard Nimoy Passes Away at Age 83

Star Trek fans around the world are mourning the loss of American actor Leonard Nimoy who passed away today at age 83. He made famous the line “live long and prosper” and had a lengthy career in television and movies. But his most well-known role was as the logical Vulcan Spock in the Star Trek franchise.

His early career began with television roles in programs like Dragnet, Twilight Zone and Perry Mason. He also starred in several Westerns such as Wagon Train, Bonanza, The Virginian and Gunsmoke.

In 1979 he appeared as the half-human, half-alien in Star Trek: The Motion Picture alongside William Shatner, DeForest Kelley and James Doohan. He also starred in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country, and Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. He reprised his role at an older Spock in the 2013 Star Trek Into Darkness when J.J. Abrams revived the franchise with Chris Pine in the role of Captain Kirk.

Nimoy also did voice work in Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

Along with acting, Nimoy directed several films including 3 Men and a Baby. He also pursued poetry, photography and music.
