Home Video Releases for March 31

The end of the month comes with a handful of new releases that showed up on this year’s Oscar ballots as well as some little known films.

Among the movies is an educational documentary suitable for the entire family. Island of Lemurs: Madagascar doesn’t include have any wild and crazy penguins trying to escape from the New York City Zoo. Instead this film looks at the unusual little mammals that live in Madagascar. Unfortunately because of deforestation on the island, these playful creatures are threatened with extinction.

Interstellar was the epic space movie of 2014. The film stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway as two astronauts chosen to make a risky interstellar journey to search for another inhabitable planet for Earth’s population to live on. The movie has plenty of rollercoaster moments of adventure, peril and suspense and is best suited for teens and adults.

If you are in for more space adventures, the 2013 movie Gravityre-releases in a Diamond Luxe edition. Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star as two astronauts who have to try to find a way to get back to Earth after their shuttle is damaged by space debris. The film won seven Oscars and was nominated for Best Picture at the 2014 Academy Awards.

The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch<was a Best Picture Nominee for 2014. This biopic follows the life of mathematician Alan Turing who helped crack the German’s enigma code during World War II. He is also credited with developing the first modern computing machine known today as a computer.

Reese Witherspoon stars as a woman who finds her life turned upside down after her divorce. Yearning to find herself, she sets out on a 1,100-mile solo hick in the movie Wild. Witherspoon and Laura Dern both received Oscar nominations for their roles in the film.

The documentary Meet the Mormons introduces viewers to six different members of the Mormon faith. Among the individuals on screen are the football coach for the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, a female Mixed Martial Arts competitor and the man known as the Candy Bomber during the Berlin Airlift.
