American lyricist Ira Gershwin, born on December 6, 1896, was a prolific composer and songwriter who worked with his younger brother George to create a multitude of musical numbers.

Some of the pair's most memorable songs include "I Got Rhythm","Someone to Watch Over Me"; and "The Man I Love." Although he died on August 17, 1983 at the age of 86, his songs are still popular in films including Eat, Pray Love, Fame, Leatherheads, P.S. I Love You, Run Fat Boy Run, Spanglish, The Aviator, Catch Me If You Can, Mr. Holland's Opus and Return To Me.
