Film & History

Nov 15, 2010: This week in the movies: Mickey Mouse celebrates a birthday on November 18.

Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney (who provided the first voice for the animated character) created the now famous mouse in 1928. On Mickey’s 50th anniversary in 1978, he became the first cartoon character to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also served as the Grand Marshal of the Tournament of Roses Parade in 2005.

Like many of his equals on the famous walk, the big-eared rodent has a long list of film appearances. Just a few of his movies include Mickey’s Christmas Carol, A Goofy Movie, Fantasia 2000 and Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas.
