Transcendence Limps into 4th at Box Office

Captain America kept a grip on number one at the box office over the Easter long weekend, bringing the movie’s total gross to well over $200 million.

But the big surprise may have been the success of the faith-based movie Heaven is for Real which edged out Rio 2 to take the second spot. It’s an achievement for the film based on the New York bestseller of the same name and a sign that Christian movies may appeal to general moviegoers as well. Johnny Depp’s sci-fi movie Transcendence ended up in a distant fourth, earning only $10 million for the opening weekend. That’s a little ding in the bucket for a movie that had a production budget of $100 million. It’s also another disappointing outing for Depp who’s last two movies, The Long Ranger and Dark Shadows both failed to break $30 million on their opening weekend.
