Should You Listen to Dr. Oprah?

Celebrities are quick to endorse products, religions and even health therapies. But should we listen to people who are far from being doctors or scientists?

A recent article in the June 2009 Reader’s Digest covers endorsements of three medical regimes: bio-identical hormones (Oprah Winfrey), childhood vaccines (Jenny McCarthy) and gluten-free diets (Elisabeth Hasselbeck). The article compares each celebrity’s opinion with scientific evidence.

While our favorite stars may be compelling to watch on TV and in movies, it’s easy to forget that they form most of their opinions the same way we do based solely on personal experience.
