Movie Ideas for Girls’ Night

Coming up with a list of the perfect chick flicks for a Girls’ Night isn’t always easy. Trust Oprah Magazine to have a list by writer Karen Durbin of 50 films that "show us who we are, where we’ve been, what we can take, and better yet, what we can dish out".

While that’s all good and fine, I wanted to know what the women around me would choose for a night with their friends. Here’s a list of choices compiled from their comments.

Adapted from a book by the same name The Help focuses on racial issues in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960s. Email becomes a means of communication for a young woman and an Internet friend who discuss the loss of her business in You’ve Got Mail. In Ella Enchanted, a young girl is cursed with a spell that forces her to be perfectly obedient. In an adaptation of the Cinderella story Ever After, Drew Barrymore plays a girl who must save her family farm. In another fairytale-like movie, a young man discovers a falling star is actually a beautiful maiden in Stardust. Sandra Bullock stars as a toll-booth ticket taker who is mistaken for the girlfriend of a man who is injured on the train in While You Were Sleeping.

Jane Austin’s story of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy comes to the screen in the 2005 version of Pride & Prejudice starring Keira Knightly and Matthew MacFayden. Also popular was the six-hour BBC version. The 1954 musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers features plenty of singing and dancing numbers in this story of a group of brothers who kidnap potential brides. Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novel Anne of Green Gables comes to the screen starring a young Megan Follows as the irrepressible redhead Anne Shirley. Twilight fans can work their way through all the franchise just in time to catch Twilight Sage: Breaking Dawn Part 1.

Need a little more action and a little less romance? One woman’s favorite film is the action/thriller The Transporter. Who knew?
