Too Many Underage Facebook Users

Consumer Reports recent released the results of a survey that indicate of the 20 million minors who actively used Facebook this past year, more than one-third were younger than 13—the supposed minimum age one must be to use Facebook. Obviously there is a problem, both with the age verification process and parents’ understandings of the risks involved in having their young children involved in social networking. The survey is part of an article titled “Online Exposure” and, along with the issue of underage Facebook users, it also looks at a myriad of other risks, including adult issues with social networking and the problem of mobile phone security—especially if your device is lost or stolen.

The article can be read online at consumerreports.org.
