When two recently orphaned brothers (Aaron Johnson and Jasper Harris) flee to Venice rather than accept their proposed custody arrangements, they join a band of pick-pocketing street kids who are led by a mysterious masked teen called The Thief Lord (Rollo Weeks).

Orphaned children engage in lying, stealing, kidnapping, and petty crime in the name of providing for their needs. They also have dealings with other criminals, including one who offers to pay them a large sum of money for their thieving services. Threats, gunshots, and hand-to-hand conflicts are depicted. No real consequences are depicted for these behaviors, and magic is shown to be the answer to some of their problems. Characters consume alcohol, including a minor. Adults are portrayed as incompetent when compared to the children in the movie.

Providing both the wide and full screen versions of The Thief Lord, this DVD release includes deleted scenes, the animated short created by the character Mosca (one of the orphans) and the theatrical trailer. The Thief Lord is one of my favourite movies. I fail to see any flaws with this movie, but the editor must have his or her reasons. I would recommend this film indefinitely.
