I really enjoyed this movie. It’s very violent, but the violence is characteristic of the time period, and not gratuitous. I will allow my teenagers to watch it. Most of the sexual content is brief and difficult to follow. There is a scene in the beginning with Prince John in bed with a lover, but that scene is easily skipped on DVD.
I appreciate this depiction of the Robin Hood story, as it incorporates more of the historical facts, and lends a much different perspective than any other version I have seen. The love between Marion and Robin develops slowly, and their romantic behavior is restrained and relatively private.
Movies like this increase my appreciation for the safety and civilization we enjoy. It was quite moving and uplifting. It’s a great date movie for adult couples.
