How We Determine Our Grades

I haven’t seen the movie yet but have a question.  The rating is PG for “brief mild language.”  What exactly does this mean—cursing or suggestive language?  We are discussing taking elementary school-aged children to watch on a field trip and need more information.  Thanks for any information you can share.

Obviously we haven’t seen the movie either, but from my experience with movie ratings the MPAA’s “brief mild language” statement usually refers to what we call “mild profanities” here at Parent Previews. These would include words like hell and damn. “Brief” typically means only one or two occurrences of these words will be heard. Sometimes it also indicates scatological “potty” or “bathroom” language.

Note that we have some other information about what’s in the movie if you click the tab above that says “Content Details”. This information comes from Canadian ratings agencies. Note that there is no mention of language from these boards… however the Canadian’s are typically not as sensitive to language as the U.S. MPAA board.

Finally we should be able to publish our full review on opening day (March 2) so check back then for full details.
