Holly Kennedy (Hilary Swank) isn't sure what to do with her life when her husband Gerry (Gerard Butler) passes away. Apparently, her loving spouse realized this would be a problem, so he pre-recorded a few messages for Holly, to be delivered after his death. While his thoughtfulness comforts the grieving widow, Holly's mother (Kathy Bates) and friends (Gina Gershon and Lisa Kudrow) fear she'll never find happiness in the future if she keeps hanging onto the past.
