Jonas Brothers 3D Concert Experience Parent Guide

My greatest complaint was just how loud it was (is my age showing?) and if that's the biggest objection, then it's likely pretty safe to let your family members join the party.

Parent Movie Review

First there was Elvis, then The Beatles followed by the boy bands of the 90s—and now The Jonas Brothers. Although the cultural impact of these singing sensations may vary, one thing is constant: all have attracted fanatical female fans.

What accounts for this phenomenon? I suspect there is no definitive answer, yet it’s a pretty safe bet those already attracted to this group will find their flames fueled by this 3D Concert Experience. Inter-cutting shots of the siblings’ Burning Up Tour with snippets of behind the scenes footage, this movie sets out to capture a day-in-the-life of these rock-and-rollers.

A 4:15 AM wake-up call does pay homage to the not-so stellar aspects of being a star, but from there on out, the production favors the “living the dream” image. Limo rides, TV appearances, and album launches are all accompanied by an army of aggressive admirers eager for the touch of a hand or a glance of an eye. Some of the sequences are certainly staged, like the opening credits where the boys attempt to escape a New York City traffic jam only to be mobbed by groupies who chase them across car tops and up skyscrapers. Others are quite genuine, showing girls screaming, crying, swooning and hyperventilating while crowd controllers try to keep them in line.

The fire is really turned on when the band of brothers step onto the stage at the Madison Square Garden (filming also took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California). Here Joe, Nick and Kevin croon their popular tunes amidst pyrotechnic displays, light shows and fancy hydraulic platforms. Their high-energy performance showcases drumming, dancing and gymnastic feats, backed-up by percussionists, strings, and keyboards. And, to appeal to what few males may be in the audience, guest appearances are made by Taylor Swift (fiddling up Should’ve Said No) and Demi Lovato (singing This Is Me, her number from the Disney Movie Camp Rock, which also featured The Jonas Brothers). A music-video-styled production of the song Love Is On Its Way is also included.

For parents that are being begged for a ticket, or are considering tagging along with their teen, there is good news. This virtual concert offers up-beat lyrics, clean role models, and language that doesn’t stoop below the word “gosh”. The worst sexual content shown is Taylor Swifts’ short skirt and cowboy boot attire, some quiet flirting, and the boys’ bare chests during a costume change. Oh… and the moment when Joe removes his coat on stage (you don’t see anything more then his muscular arms in his sleeveless shirt, but it does solicit an ooohing reaction from the crowd). My greatest complaint was just how loud it was (is my age showing?) and if that’s the biggest objection, then it’s likely pretty safe to let your family members join the party.

Rating & Content Info

Why is Jonas Brothers 3D Concert Experience rated G? Jonas Brothers 3D Concert Experience is rated G by the MPAA

If you are concerned about celebrity idolization, you may not want to encourage your youth to participate in this 3D Concert Experience. If that’s not a worry, The Jonas Brothers do offer positive role models, catchy tunes and benign lyrics. The siblings are aware of their popularity and occasionally flirt (one of them tries to amuse a waitress by pretending there is an earthquake). The boys’ bare chests are seen during a costume change (they act embarrassed when they notice the camera). The volume of fan screaming increases when Joe pulls off his jacket on stage (he is wearing a sleeveless shirt underneath). A female performer appears in a short and sleeveless dress.
