Synopsis

In order to get a factory to open in a small Eastern Canada coastal village, the town needs to have a resident doctor. In order to woo a doctor into staying permanently, Murray French (Brendan Gleeson) leads the rest of the locals in trying to seduce their chosen candidate, Dr. Paul Lewis (played by Taylor Kitsch).

Violence:

Characters engage in lying and fraud. A character asks for a bribe. Scars and medical injuries are shown. A doctor stitches a wound. Characters argue. A man verbally belittles another. Characters secretly listen in on another’s telephone conversations, and sometimes gossip about the things they hear.

Sexual Content:

Two short scenes imply sexual relations between husbands and wives (sexual moans and sounds are heard). Numerous sexual discussions occur (with slang and anatomical terms). An unmarried couple talks about their sex life over the phone. A man is hit in the groin with a ball. A man’s bare chest and back are seen when he is showering—he is also shown wearing only a towel. A woman asks a doctor about birth control. Characters make sexual motions with their hands. A man zips up his pants when leaving an outhouse. Infidelity is discussed. A husband pinches his wife’s behind.

Language:

Scatological slang and profanities are infrequently uttered. Multiple terms of deity are used as expletives.

Alcohol / Drug Use:

Characters drink alcohol frequently, often to the point of inebriation. Women are shown smoking a couple of times. A character is found with cocaine in his possession. References are made to cocaine use.

Other:

A seasick man vomits.
