Why is Queen of Katwe rated PG? Queen of Katwe is rated PG by the MPAA for thematic elements, an accident scene and some suggestive material
Violence: A character is accidentally hit by a passing vehicle; the resulting bloody injuries require surgery (which is briefly depicted) even though no anesthetic is available. A flood destroys property and places a child in peril when water pours through a makeshift home. A family is locked out of their home after failing to pay their rent, and forced to live on the streets. A mother and children have some verbal disagreements. Some bullying occurs between children. Prejudice between different classes of society is portrayed.
Sexual Content: The script includes discussions about women offering favors in exchange for men providing money. A young woman leaves home with a man who promises her gifts – she later returns alone and discloses she is pregnant. A baby is born out of wedlock. A girl is seen in slightly revealing clothing, and comments are made about her selling herself.
Language: Name-calling occurs.
