Why is Me Before You rated PG-13? Me Before You is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for thematic elements and some suggestive material.

Violence: An accident between a pedestrian and a motorcycle is implied, but not shown. The victim sustains serious injuries and is left paralyzed from the neck down.A suicide attempt is referred to. Doctor-assisted suicide is a major part of the plot and the movie presents a pro-euthanasia message. Reckless recreational sports are depicted.

Sexual Content: Sexual relationships outside of marriage are implied, and a couple of scenes show a man and woman in bed together. A man lays on top of a woman and kisses her while they exchange sexual banter. A man is often seen shirtless and sometimes naked, although no private body parts are shown. A woman wears short skirts and cleavage revealing clothes. The script includes sexual innuendo and frank talk about sex. Mention is made of a mother who had a child out of wedlock. A couple kisses.

Language: Sexual references, slang terms, innuendo and crude comments are heard, as well as some discussions about sex. Mild and moderate profanities, along with terms of deity are used. Name-calling, mocking and condescending remarks are also included.

Alcohol / Drug Use: Prescription drugs and pain killers are discussed. Characters drink in social settings and some become a little tipsy. Concerns about drinking while on medication are briefly mentioned.
