This movie is based on the famous 1925 Scopes Trial.

Violence: A teacher is arrested in the classroom in front of his students. A daughter discusses her fear of her strict father. Townsfolk make verbal threats of violence and form mobs. A preacher damns various sinners, some of them publicly. A man awaiting trial is taunted by the public who throw a rock at him through a window and burn him in effigy. A man mockingly dresses in a hood in an attempt to be funny. A woman smacks another woman’s face. Characters collapse under stress and one dies.

Sexual Content: Couples kiss and embrace. Original sin and sex are mentioned.

Language: The script includes the use of mild profanities and terms of deity used as expletives.Some name-calling and slurs are used.

Alcohol / Drug Use: Smoking is frequently depicted – in one scene a monkey is shown with a cigarette.Characters pour themselves a drink while discussing a stressful situation. An emotional woman is given a sedative.

Other: Religion is discussed and terms of deity are used. Many of those depicted as believing in God are portrayed as ignorant and intolerant.
