Matthew and Christina Drayton's (Spencer Tracey and Katharine Hepburn) are about to find out if they really can practice the racial tolerance they preach when their daughter Joanna (Katharine Houghton) unexpectedly announces her engagement to Dr. John Prentice (Sidney Poitier). Well-mannered, handsome and highly educated, the only "problem" with this Prince Charming is his color.

Polite discussion between mother and daughter, and the potential mother-in-laws.

Violence: A-

Car backs into another vehicle resulting in angry exchange between drivers. Some heated discussion over situation.
