Why is G.I. Joe: Retaliation rated PG-13? G.I. Joe: Retaliation is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for intense sequences of combat violence and martial arts action throughout, and for brief sensuality and language.

Violence: Violent altercations involving countless types of artillery, as well as bladed and explosive weapons occur throughout the movie in nearly every scene. However, despite the amount of violence, there is little blood seen. Torture, specifically “water-boarding” is mentioned once. Countries launch nuclear weapons aimed at each other. A city is shown being destroyed by a futuristic weapon.

Sexual Content: A woman is seen in a revealing dress and two men look at her in a sexual manner. A woman is shown undressing to her underwear in the background of a shot.

Language: A character makes a sexual gesture with his fingers and another begins to say a sexual expletive but is cut off. Other profanities are infrequent and limited to mild curses and a couple of terms of deity.

Drugs/Alcohol: A fictional substance is used to paralyze people. Another substance is used to make a character forget what has happened to him.
