Why is Everything is Illuminated rated PG-13? Everything is Illuminated is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for disturbing images/violence, sexual content and language.

Obviously, this film deals with serious issues involving the actions of Nazi soldiers against Jewish populations. Much of this is described in dialogue, although some pictures of bodies and firing squads are seen. A character suffering from grief and guilt commits suicide. Moderate profanities are throughout—both verbal and subtitled—along with a single sexual expletive. Some sexual dialogue, and a young man and boy sharing a pornographic magazine are also included.
