Why is Collateral Beauty rated PG-13? Collateral Beauty is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for thematic elements and brief strong language.
Violence: The death of a child and dealing with grief are the main themes of this film. Depression and mental illness are depicted. A character cycles recklessly and with disregard for his life. A man falls off a skateboard, but is not seriously injured. Verbal arguments occur. Characters conspire against a co-worker for reasons both selfish and caring. Mention is made about stealing mail and a character confesses to committing this federal offence. A sick character vomits and some blood is shown. A hurt child says cruel things to her father.
Sexual Content: Infidelity is mentioned, along with a resulting divorce. Some mild sexual remarks and banter are heard. A woman wears a cleavage baring dress.
Profanity: A sexual expletive is used once, as well as another word that sounds like it. The script also includes infrequent mild and moderate profanity, scatological slang and terms of deity.
Alcohol / Drug Use: After a stressful situation, a man says he needs a drink. Illegal drug use is depicted in a TV show watched by a character, as well as joked about by a young man from a disadvantaged neighborhood.
