Why is Cafe Society rated PG-13? Cafe Society is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for some violence, a drug reference, suggestive material and smoking.

Violence: Gang related activities are depicted including robbery, hold-ups, kidnaping, threats, extortion, racketeering, beatings, and murder. Money laundering is implied. Corpses are shown, some with bloody wounds. On-screen shootings are depicted. A character, whose face is wrapped in a towel, is shot in the head and blood oozes though the fabric. Bodies are tossed into shallow pits and covered in concrete. Suicide is mentioned. The glamourous side of underground crime is briefly depicted. A man bullies his neighbors. Government corruption is implied. Characters gamble illegally. The death penalty is discussed.

Sexual Content: A character hires a prostitute and a discussion about her profession and fees follows. (Although they begin to undress, no sexual activity actually occurs). Adultery and infidelity are mentioned, discussed (no details shown), and lied about. Couples kiss and sexual relations are implied. A woman is seen in her underwear. The script includes dialogue about sex, along with references and innuendo. An unwed pregnancy is discussed and abortion is mentioned.
