Why is Brooklyn rated PG-13? Brooklyn is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for a scene of sexuality and brief strong language.
Violence: Characters verbally belittle others. Some mean-spirited teasing and behavior occurs between female characters. Family members grieve over the death of a loved one and a corpse is briefly shown.
Sexual Content: An unmarried couple engages in sexual activity – they kiss, begin to undress one another, lie together in bed and make sexual sounds. Characters embrace and kiss. Some mild sexual innuendo is heard. A character suffers from seasickness (diarrhea and vomiting are depicted). References are made to a woman’s menstrual cycle, as well as shaving the bikini line. Divorce is mentioned. Characters cover themselves in towels and change into bathing suits at the beach.
Language: A sexual expletive is used twice in non-sexual contexts. The script includes infrequent scatological slang, moderate profanity, and terms of deity used as expletives. Some racial slurs and derogatory remarks are made.
