The loss of a mother and the desire to win the approval of a father are poignantly portrayed in this movie. Name-calling, occasional scraps that lead to head butting, and the inevitable results of crossing paths with porcupines and skunks are depicted. Characters get into life-threatening situations with hunters, dogs, and leg traps. Some gunshots are heard.
