Why is August Rush rated PG? August Rush is rated PG by the MPAA thematic elements, mild violence and language
Although Evan has a caring social worker, the other boys in the orphanage are bullies who take every opportunity to belittle and rough up the youngster. Family tension is depicted between Lyla and her father as well as Louis and his brother (whose scuffle results in a bloody lip). Once on the streets, Evan is exposed to the unscrupulous ambitions of Wizard and the undisciplined actions of the other runaways. A man is hit with a guitar. Traffic accidents also cause injury. The script contains repeated depictions of alcohol use, infrequent profanities and a storyline revolving around an illegitimate child (no on screen sexual activity is seen).
