After watching a movie with your children or students, we encourage parents and teachers to look for education opportunities to teach with movies. Here are a few discussion topics that can help with lesson plans or teaching in the home.
One of the characters in the film talks about having selective memory. What does that mean? Why do we remember different things about the past? Why are some experiences more memorable to one person than another?
How do the members of this family support one another during challenging times? What good behaviors do they model? What kind of relationship is depicted between Katy and her brother Howard?
Author Mary O’Hara lived in Wyoming for nearly 25 years and wrote two other books about the range country. Thunderhead was published in 1943 and Green Grass of Wyoming in 1946. Both of these books were also made into motion pictures in the 1940s.

Kerry Bennett is interested in media from both a journalist and parent perspective. Along with authoring articles for several family-oriented publications, she has written for Parent Previews for nearly 10 years. She serves as Vice President of the Alberta Association for Media Awareness. She and her husband Garry have four sons.
