Parent Movie Review

Tinker Bell (voiced by Mae Whitman) is back. After three previous adventures (Tinker Bell, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure and Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue) in which the playful leaf-clad tinkerer has helped the fairies of Pixie Hollow bring Spring, Summer and Fall to the human world, our pint sized hero is excited to finally try her hand at the most mysterious season of all—Winter!

But, much to Tinker Bell’s disappointment, the fairies of the Winter Woods don’t want any help with their chilly work. Instead, they limit the contributions of the other fairies to weaving baskets for snowflake delivery, and prepping woodland animals for long months of hibernation. All the other arrangements are made by the Winter Fairies themselves, on the other side of a bridge that marks the boundaries of their icy domain.

When a friend explains to Tinker Bell that crossing the bridge from either side is forbidden, the mischievous little lady decides to flaunt the rules (again) and take a brief excursion to the snowy forest. Although she is hastily retrieved a few seconds later by her startled comrades, her short trip to the Winter Woods is not as insignificant to Tinker Bell as it may appear to her companions. Feeling an instant rapport to the unknown land, the tiny imp is also encouraged by an inexplicable sparkling of her wings that began the instant she set foot on the frozen ground.

Of course, no rule ever stopped this little fairy from getting to the bottom of a mystery! Determined to learn why her wings would react in such a way, and more curious than ever about the forbidden fourth season, Tink makes a visit to the library. However, books can’t answer every question, and soon she’s planning a return expedition.

As Tinker Bell probes deeper into the secrets of the Winter Woods, she encounters some of the strange characters who call them home. One of them is a dainty frost fairy named Periwinkle (voiced by Lucy Hale) with whom she shares an amazing connection. As their friendship grows, she learns that the regulations against crossing the bridge may be in place for a good reason. Soon, all of Pixie Hollow is affected by her rash decisions, and it’s up to Tinker Bell and her friends to put things right before it’s too late.

Like the previous Tinker Bell escapades, this wintry adventure excels at teaching lessons of friendship and cooperation, while gently explaining why the protagonist’s disregard for the rules can have dire repercussions for those around her. These elements, combined with the beautiful animation, are sure to help this whimsical story enchant the whole family.
