Why Is X-Files I Want to Believe Rated PG-13?

Gory depictions of severed arms, heads and other appendages, along with bloody injuries, are combined with shots of decomposing corpses. Characters are beaten, stabbed, attacked by dogs and murdered. One is impaled in a construction site and another pushed from a cliff. Several scenes of surgical procedures are shown. Negative religious depictions include a former priest accused of being a pedophile and unsupportive hospital personnel. Brief portrayals of a homosexual couple are shown, as well as some limited sexual innuendo. A man repeatedly smokes during times of stress. Profanities and some derogatory language are used.
