Why Is Wondrous Oblivion Rated PG?
Prejudice is often felt more than seen on the quiet London street where the Wiseman family tries hard to fit in. It does, however, become more evident when a lively Jamaican family moves next door. Adults are seen drinking at home and at social events. A shop owner smokes, as does one of David’s teachers. After school, a group of his friends invites David to share a cigarette with him. Although Ruth is initially concerned about their new neighbors, she finds herself smitten with Dennis and makes increasing invitations to him. At a party, they are shown sensually dancing. Later she goes to his house and the couple is seen kissing. These actions increase the tension in the neighborhood and as a result, one house is doused with gas and set on fire. Some brief profanities and racial slurs are also used in the script.
