Nim’s Island

Nim (Abigail Breslin) has two passions: her amazing life on a wild tropical island and reading Alex Rover adventure stories. So when her father (Gerard Butler) suddenly goes missing, the young girl turns to a place she is sure she'll find help -- the author of her favorite novels. But what she doesn't know is that her favorite writer is actually a citified woman (Jodie Foster) afraid to leave her apartment. Get the movie review and more. »

Why Is Nim’s Island Rated PG?

Living on a secret island, Nim and her father eat mealworms for dinner, are exposed to violent tropical storms, and have their beach invaded by passengers from an ocean liner who show up in bikinis. After a tumble down a rock cliff, Nim has a large cut that becomes infected. She sets up catapults and sharpens a knife to help scare off the invaders. While lost at sea, her father’s boat is attacked by a shark. Men fight with swords and one man is thrown into a pit of lava. One character vomits repeatedly, takes extra doses of motion sickness pills and steals a boat. Several characters are shown without lifejackets. A sea animal passes gas. Infrequent profanities are included.
