Why Is Evening Rated PG-13?

This romantic drama, which spans over a five-decade period, is heavy on dialogue and one-on-one conversations. An unmarried couple impulsively decides to spend the night together (no nudity is seen, but sexual relations are heavily implied). A man struggling with homosexual feelings briefly kisses another man. A woman who is not married reveals she is pregnant, but says she doesn’t want to “get rid” of the baby (she doesn’t). People disrobe to jump into the ocean after drinking heavily—one man is seen naked from the rear and another woman is seen in her underwear. A hit-and-run pedestrian fatality is portrayed (the accident is not seen directly but the body is shown). Infrequent profanities and one use of a sexual expletive are included. Cigarette smoking is abundant throughout the 1950s scenes, and heavy social drinking is depicted.
